Q&A: What is an "indirect job" anyway?

The Manston Master Plan promises hundreds of them, but what (and where) are they?

Now that is a very silly question to ask.
An indirect job is created where people and services are attracted to an area and certain support services spring up to cater for increased footfall. Take for example Margate back in the heyday we had the pier, dreamland and lido. Now surrounding these ventures were many "indirect jobs" in the form of guest houses (with staff), restaurants (with staff)increases in road traffic so more petrol stations and garages maybe car hire etc etc. So to answer you question just THINK OF THE BIG PICTURE. Whats happend to Dreamland, the Pier and Lido YEP gone and Margate...
You see your campaign is just to NIMBY. We have a fantastic opportunity in Thanet to get behind the airport and its "indirect jobs" whatever they may be by if you think outside the box they are there.

There are very few truly silly questions.

Manston can handle a plane every ten minutes. It has 16 hours of daytime capacity available, when it can handle planes without any restriction on size or noise - any Boeing, any Airbus. You do the sums: it's a lot of passengers.

Let's see Manston get busy, let's see what they can do, let's see how many jobs the airport can actually deliver. Then, when we know what the real benefits will be, we can decide whether night flights are worth the cost. (Ramsgate's guest houses won't be so busy when websites like TripAdvisor are full of comments about not being able to sleep.)

And if you're interested in thinking of a bigger picture, try this. Oil is a finite resource: as it gets scarcer, the price increases. The car industry is future-proofing itself by developing electric cars. There are no electric planes for the passenger routes to Belfast, Boston or Bangkok. Aviation is a sunset industry.
